Discover the fascinating towns of Taormina and Catania in the shadow of Mount Etna on our virtual tour
Taormina and Catania Virtual Tour
duration 1.5 hours
Join Andrea to discover two of Sicily’s most fascinating towns from home on our virtual tour. One of Italy's most historic holiday destinations, picturesque Taormina is perched on a slope high above the Ionian Sea on Sicily’s eastern coast. The town began life as a thriving Greek settlement before coming under the sway of the Romans, and Taormina’s elegant cathedral and beautiful buildings are testament to its continued prosperity over the centuries. By the end of the 19th century jaw-dropping Taormina was already on the tourist trail, with famous visitors including Oscar Wilde, Richard Wagner and even Tsar Nicholas II. Boasting spectacular views, stunning ancient ruins, a beautiful coastline, a thriving arts scene and more, Taormina is a must-visit on any Sicilian sojourn! Next stop on our virtual tour is brooding Catania, where fire and water collided to fashion a city justly recognised as a Unesco World Heritage Site. Since its foundation in 729 B.C. by Greek settlers from Chalkidiki, the city’s story of recurring invasions has rendered the city a fascinating palimpsest of cultures, where fascinating history, rich culture, beautiful nature and delicious food combine to make Catania one of Italy’s most appealing destinations. Discover it with Andrea from the comfort of your own home!

Hi I’m Andrea! A native of Naples, I’ve lived in the Campania region of Italy all my life, and I have a deep love for its art, archeology, music, architecture, cuisine, natural beauty and - of course - its people. I have shared this world with many, many visitors over the years, showcasing the vast range of this wonderful place. When I was 14 years old I started working as an actor in theatres, and this plays a central role in how I communicate on my tours today - I always try to put something theatrical into everything I do :-)

Andrea did a great job of describing the history and beauty of Taormina and Catania. His maps, photos, and dynamic graphics were very helpful. I had not expected much of Catania, but Andrea’s enthusiasm won me over quickly.
This is a lovely, light tour to two very different places in Sicily - Catania, which seems to be a rather typical town for eastern Sicily, and Taormina, a very touristy town in non-pandemic times. As usual on his virtual tours, Andrea gives historical background (including maps), a suggested itinerary of sites to visit, and suggested foods to eat. As a previous reviewer has noted, in this tour (and his other tours) Andrea's passion and enthusiasm for southern Italy and for being a guide shines through. I thoroughly enjoyed this tour and all of the previous tours Andrea has done, and really appreciate how much work he has put into all of his virtual tours. I cannot highly enough recommend this one - or any of the others. If you take a virtual tour with Andrea, you will be in for a real treat.
